Loos for Haringey demands action on public toilet access

We received a positive response and have since met regularly with councillors, the director of public health and other council officers and NHS representatives.

We helped Haringey carry out an opinion survey – most respondents were very critical. The Haringey Toilet Strategy went to cabinet for approval on February 10, 2026.

There have been some small wins along the way.

In 2024 we helped get the toilets reopened at Morrisons in Wood Green.

The council has improved and extended the toilet map on its website and is trying to encourage investment and planning for better signage.

But there are ongoing problems too, with the poor condition of many facilities, the failure of Workman to invest in toilets on its site at Tottenham Hale Retail Park and, as a recent deputation led by disabled people shows, poor wheelchair accessibility.

Loos for Haringey is part of a London-wide movement. Through the Toilet Manifesto for London Group, they are affiliated to the London Loo Alliance, which is backed by Age UK.

Nationally, we support the Legalise Loos Campaign demand for new government legislation.

We helped persuade the London Mayor, Sadiq Khan, to invest in improvements on the tube and overground.

As a first step, Transport for London has reopened the toilets on the platform at White Hart Lane and is working on a new accessible toilet at Seven Sisters.

On World Toilet Day, November 19, 2025, we gathered outside the closed toilet at Turnpike Lane bus garage. We want to see this facility restored to public-access.

It was terrible weather and we didn’t connect with the travelling public as well as we could but earlier that day Kilburn Older Voices Exchange collected 140 petition signatures in 45 minutes at Kilburn station.

How can you help? Loos for Haringey is only a handful of people. But across the city we’re starting to win. It’s time to get pushing.

We’ll have a regular picket at Turnpike Lane from the spring. And we need more people to join us. Email: [email protected] to get involved!
