The penalties were issued in 2025 under an enforcement campaign led by the borough’s Labour administration to address illegal dumping.

A total of 147 fixed penalty notices were issued during the year, supported by an upgraded CCTV system and increased surveillance in hotspot areas.

New measures include redeployable cameras, high-visibility patrols, and CCTV patrol vans to target repeat offenders in areas such as Hendon, West Hendon, Cricklewood, and Burnt Oak.

The enforcement action follows improvements to Barnet Council’s CCTV infrastructure, which Labour says was “broken 70 per cent of the time under the Conservatives”.

Cllr Alan Schneiderman, Barnet’s cabinet member for environment and climate change, said: “We have used carrot and stick to tackle fly-tipping, from the community skips programme to our CCTV cameras and staff with the ability to give FPNs.

“The Tories have failed or opposed this agenda – axing the community skips programme, running down the CCTV system and outsourcing our summer park patrols meaning staff could not issue FPNs.

“Only Labour is determined to tackle fly-tipping, head on.”
