The company is partnering with Popeye’s and 35 independently-run restaurants to deliver the meals

Uber and Uber Eats are once again supporting their drivers and couriers through Ramadan by handing out 100,000 dates and bottles of water as well as thousands of complimentary Iftar meals across the country. With the holy month now well underway, Uber Eats is also offering ongoing support for small restaurants offering Suhoor.

After multiple successful years operating similar programmes in London, Uber and Uber Eats are launching their most extensive programme yet to support couriers observing the holy month.

Throughout Ramadan, Uber Eats will be handing out 100,000 complimentary dates and bottles of water to fasting couriers, enabling them to break their fast whilst delivering meals and groceries nationwide. A nationwide collaboration with Popeyes will also offer free Iftar meals to couriers at sunset.

Uber Eats is additionally working alongside 35 independently run high-street restaurants in major towns and cities to provide thousands of locally made takeaway Iftar meals for couriers. Uber is also organising Iftar dinners for more than 350 drivers observing Ramadan, gathering them together to break fast in London, Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds and Edinburgh.

This year’s programme expands upon the company’s continued support for Muslim communities, including previous schemes such as Sundown Spots, Open for Suhoor and The Scoopery.

Research commissioned by Uber Eats discovered that 93 per cent of UK Muslims believe brands should do more to raise awareness of Ramadan, helping inform the platform’s long-term strategy towards the holy month.

Merve Basci, General Manager of Uber Eats UK, commented: “Ramadan is rooted in generosity and community. We are focused on showing up in practical ways, supporting couriers who are fasting and helping independent restaurants serve their communities during this important time.”

Andrew Brem, General Manager, Uber UK, said: “Drivers are at the heart of our platform. Hosting Iftar dinners across the UK is a meaningful way to recognise those observing Ramadan and bring drivers together during the holy month.”

Uber Eats collaborates with over 65,000 merchants throughout the UK, predominantly small and medium-sized businesses, and processes millions of orders weekly via its nationwide courier network.
