Mayor of London, Sadiq Khanconfirmed the new tariffs for public transport in the capital. While Tube, DLR and urban train fares rise by 6%, buses and trams remain at the same fare and daily caps and Travelcards are frozen until 2027.

For Romanians who commute daily, the differences can mean tens of extra pounds per month or none at all, depending on the type of transport used.

Buses and trams remain at the same price until 5 July 2026:

Bus and tram fares are frozen until 5 July 2026:

  • The adult pay as you go rate remains £1.75
  • Hopper fare remains valid – unlimited journeys within 60 minutes for £1.75
  • Daily cap remains £5.25

The long-term caps also remain unchanged:

  • 7 days: £24.70
  • Lunar: £94.90
  • Annual: £988

Metro and train caps frozen until 2027

Zone 1–2

  • Daily cap: £8.90
  • Weekly cap (Mon–Sun): £44.70

Zone 1–6

  • Daily cap: £16.30
  • Weekly cap: £81.60

Travelcards remain at the same price until 2027

Relevant examples for Romanians who commute daily:

Zone 1–2

  • 7 days: £44.70
  • Lunar: £171.70
  • Annual: £1,788

Zone 1–6

  • 7 days: £81.60
  • Lunar: £313.40
  • Annual: £3,264

Tube, DLR, London Overground and Elizabeth Line

  • Zone 1 (peak): increases from £2.90 a £3.10
  • Zone 1 (off-peak): de la £2.80 per £3.00
  • Single zone (outside Zone 1) peak: from £2.10 a £2.30
  • A single zone (off-peak): from £2.00 a £2.20
  • Elizabeth Line Heathrow ↔ Zone 1: de la £13.90 for £15.50

Cash tickets for Zones 1–6 remain at £7.

River Bus (Uber Boats by Thames Clippers)

Fares are increasing on all routes. Examples:

  • Central Zone: £9.90 adult
  • Central & East: £11.40 adult
  • West to East: £19.30 adult

Children generally pay half the fare.

IFS Cloud Cable Car

  • One-way adult ticket: remains £7
  • Roundtrip: Increase from £13 a £13.50
  • Children and Freedom Pass holders pay half

If you use the Tube daily in Zone 1, the 20p increase per journey can mean around £8–10 more per month.

If you rely on the bus or have a Travelcard, you won’t feel any change until 2027.

In a city where the cost of living is already high, the difference between “frozen” and “up 6%” matters.
