There are 25 competitive categories, decided by BAFTA’s 14,000 voting members. One category, the rising star award, is publicly voted.

Paul Thomas Anderson’s darkly comic political thriller One Battle After Another, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, is expected to face off against Ryan Coogler’s vampire-horror Sinners.

Shakespeare drama Hamnet and table tennis biopic Marty Supreme are also among the films to look out for.

Timothy Chalamet is the bookies’ favourite to win best actor but faces competition from DiCaprio, Michael B Jordan (Sinners), Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon), Robert Aramayo (I Swear) and Jesse Plemons (Bugonia).

Who is hosting the BAFTAs?

After two years with David Tennant at the helm, actor, writer and US Traitors presenter Alan Cumming is taking over hosting duties this year.

Cumming, who also hosted the BAFTA TV Awards last year, described the film awards as “a night like no other” when he was announced in December.

How to watch the 2026 BAFTAs

You can watch the show in the UK on BBC One and iPlayer from 19:00 GMT. The ceremony starts at 17:00, two hours before its TV broadcast begins, which means winners will be reported in the news and on social media before being seen on television.

Who has been nominated the most?

One Battle After Another leads the pack with 14 nominations, followed by Sinners, Hamnet and Marty Supreme.

Traditionally, BAFTA tends to recognise British talent a bit more than its Hollywood counterparts. This year, across its four acting categories, UK actors make up five of the 24 nominees – the same number as the past three years.

The only Brit up for best actor or actress this year is Robert Aramayo for I Swear, the critically-acclaimed biopic of Tourette’s campaigner John Davidson.

The Hull actor is also one of five actors up for the EE Bafta Rising Star prize.

Ireland has two nominations this year, with Hamnet stars Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal in the running for best actress and best supporting actor.

There are no Brits in the best actress category.
