A sign on the door thanks customers for bringing their sense of community to the Hampstead venue and making it “more than a bakery”.

The Ham&High reported in June 2025 how the bakery was expanding from selling pastries, coffee and lunches to opening for evening ‘Crust and Cuvee’ events.

But three months later at the end of September, the venue closed its doors at short notice citing “significant changes in the market shaped by broader economic factors and rising costs from the 2024 budget which have made it impossible for us to continue in a sustainable way”.

Customers were left disappointed that they could no longer get their hands on signature bakes included their crème brulee and banana cream croissants, mocha buns, sourdough and focaccia loaves with one posting on the I Love Hampstead Facebook page: “So sad! It was a brilliant place. Great food, atmosphere and so much more.”

While another said: “It’s the chains nearby that wipe out smaller ones. I always chose that instead of Gail’s. Hampstead seems to mostly just be chains sadly.”

The prominent site at 79-81 Heath Street was previously an estate agents and Liberal Democrat councillor for Hampstead Town ward, Linda Chung, says she hopes to see it re-let to an appropriate business.

“It’s a prominent site and I hope someone who understands Hampstead and provides a great service moves in soon,” she said.
