Aidan Sproat-Clements will head up Alleyn’s in Rosslyn Hill when it opens this September for pupils aged two to 18.

The award-winning 407-year-old south London school is taking over the site of North Bridge House Senior School.

Founded in 1619 by Elizabethan actor Edward Alleyn the co-ed school expanded for the first time in its history this year to north London – opening Alleyn’s Regent’s Park prep school last September on another North Bridge House site.

Mr Sproat-Clements is deputy head at Alleyn’s Senior School in Dulwich but has been meeting staff, pupils and the school community as he prepares to open the new Hampstead site.

His past experience includes teaching at Westminster School, working as head of maths at Wellington College, and developing initiatives at Alleyn’s including introducing TEDx style talks.

The maths and music graduate is also a keen trombone player, who produces the annual Alleyn’s Celebration Day showcasing artistic and academic achievement at the end of each year.

One of his major passions is that pupils should develop their creative skills alongside their studies – such as taking part in school orchestras.

He said: “I could not be more honoured to be appointed founding head of Alleyn’s Hampstead.

“This is as pivotal a moment in the evolution of a much-loved Hampstead school as it is in the history of Alleyn’s School.

“Over five years at Alleyn’s I’ve been involved in delivering a truly joyous education experience to a diverse group of pupils and I am really looking forward to working with families across north London to deliver that Alleyn’s experience – drawing on the 400-year legacy of Ned Alleyn, our entrepreneurial, charismatic and philanthropic founder, whilst embracing the ever-evolving world in which we live.

“Schools must cultivate a future defined by intellectual ambition, curiosity, critical thought and the pursuit of truth — it is a privilege to be part of that vital mission here at Alleyn’s Hampstead.”

A series of events will be held over the coming terms to introduce Mr Sproat-Clements to pupils and parents at the new school.
