The temperatures are continuing to plummet in the capital. And across the city, Londoners are digging out their hot water bottles and dusting off their chunkiest knitwear. Christmas is officially on the horizon, folks. So, does that mean that a sprinkling of snow could be, too?

Now look, before we go any further, I’d like to manage your expectations. The odds of London experiencing a white Christmas this year do currently remain about as slender as the Trafalgar Square Christmas tree. But it seems as though all is not entirely lost just yet.

According to the latest long-range weather predictions, there is still a shred of hope that Londoners could wake up to a magical dusting of snow on Christmas Day. And you can bet your bottom dollar that for the next four weeks, you’ll find me clinging on to that sliver of hope for dear life – no matter how tiny it may be.

So, what are the chances of London experiencing a white Christmas this year?

The team at Online Betting Guide have recently revealed their latest White Christmas predictions, detailing the odds of different areas across the UK experiencing a festive flurry of flakes. Unsurprisingly, the Scottish cities are currently leading the race, with Edinburgh currently boasting a 44.4% chance of snow on Christmas Day. The English city with the highest odds is Newcastle, with a 33.3% chance. And London? Well, we’re at the bottom of the list with a rather meagre 9.1% likelihood. But 9.1 is better than zero, so we’ll take it for now, I suppose.

For a Christmas to be considered ‘white’, all it takes is for one single snowflake to be recorded falling at any point during the 24 hours of December 25. The last wide-spread white Christmas in the UK was all the way back in 2010. And considering that the last few weeks have been unseasonably warm, I don’t think we should be dusting off our snow suits just yet, hey?

You can read Online Betting Guide’s full frosty findings here, and we’ll no doubt be keeping you updated as we get closer to the big day.
