This historic Christmas marketlocated less than an hour from London by train, is among the UK’s most beloved festive spots and ranked among Europe’s best Christmas marketsfamed for its authentic and picturesque holiday atmosphere.

Winchester Cathedral Christmas Market near London is one of the most renowned and charming Christmas markets in the UK and Europe. Located in the historic and stunning grounds of Winchester Cathedral in Hampshireit runs annually from late November to just before Christmas Day.

The market is free to enter and attracts over 110,000 visitors each year, including tourists from around the world. It features around 120 traditional wooden chalets inspired by German Christmas marketsoffering an array of high-quality crafts, seasonal gifts, food, and drink that create a festive and immersive holiday atmosphere enhanced by carols, festive lighting, and the aromas of mulled wine and cinnamon.​

The nativity scene adds a traditional and heartwarming element to the market, while the daily live entertainment ranging from local choirs singing carols to jazz ensembles and lively street performers creates a vibrant and inviting atmosphere that appeals to all ages.

Free festive activities at Winchester Cathedral Christmas market

The market typically runs from around late November through to just before Christmas Eve, opening daily from morning until early evening, with extended hours on select days to accommodate shoppers and visitors.

In addition to the stalls and entertainment, Winchester Cathedral organises an array of complementary seasonal events that further enrich the visitor experience. These include evocative carol services, candlelit vigils, and special musical performances within the cathedral itself, allowing guests to soak in the historic and spiritual significance of the venue.
