Twinkling lights are already illuminating London, so why not lean into the full festive feels and get yourself a flight to one of the best places in the world for Christmas markets? The Austrian capital, Viennais only a two hours and 15 minutes flight from London, making it the perfect location for a wintery weekend getaway for Londoners.

While London has lots of ways to enjoy the winter months, from our very own markets to ice rinks, it’s always nice to take a break from the city and experience something completely new. We’ve got the full rundown on what’s on offer in Vienna.

What to do in Vienna

The most well-known market is Christmas market, which happens right outside City Hall, and draws millions of visitors to Vienna each year. There are 96 booths to browse or pick up handmade Christmas decorations. There’s also an ice rink, and the park across the road from the market also houses an Advent display, so you’ll never run out of activities to get you into the festive mood.

Other Christmas markets include the Schönbrunn Palace marketset against the gorgeous, regal backdrop, Spittelbergwhich has a more local feeling about it, and the Art Advent Market at Karlsplatz that prides itself on sustainability. Most markets offer classic winter warmers from roasted chestnuts and sausages to Mulled winealso known as mulled wine.

Most markets open from mid-November and run until January, so start planning your trip ASAP. You can see a full list of Christmas markets here:
