Water flowing onto the sad on a beach in Newquay at sunset

I know that the weather right now doesn’t exactly scream ‘grab your swimsuit and let’s head to the beach’. But in preparation for the light at the end of the extremely long and dark tunnel we’ve found ourselves in (AKA winter in the London), we thought we’d let you know that you’ll soon be able to, once again, jump on a direct flight that’ll whizz you from the chaos of the capital city straight to the calm of the Cornish coast.

The route in question will soar between London Gatwick and Newquayand is set to resume in a matter of weeks, having recently been suspended after the previous operator went into administration. The new service will be operated by Skybusand will take off on a temporary basis, starting from November 23.

Spanning nine jaw-droppingly gorgeous miles of shoreline; Newquay is perched proudly on the very edge of the country. Beloved for its beautiful beaches (one of which has recently been named among the best in the whole world), sparkling sea, and sensational surfing culture; Newquay is a pretty popular place to visit. And it’s not too hard to see why.

Prior to going into administration, Eastern Airlines operated seven flights a week between London and Newquay. The new Skybus service is looking to start off by offering daily flights, but this could potentially be upped to twice daily on weekdays from February 2026. The handy route will be served by their ATR72 aircraft, which has room for 70 passengers on board. The flight itself will take around an hour and 20 minutes – a mere drop in the ocean compared to the 7 hours it can take by train.

Having taken on a short-term contract, Skybus will initially operate the route until mid-2026. And Cornwall Council is in the process of finding a permanent airline to take on the route after that. Skybus currently offer flights to the Isle of Scilly from Newquayso it’s nice to know that they already know their way around the place, hey?

Jonathan HinklesManaging Director of Skybussaid: “We are thrilled to launch this new service between Cornwall and London Gatwick. It is not just about making travel easier for passengers; it’s about creating opportunities – for businesses, for tourism, and for the local communities we serve.

“As a Cornish company with more than 40 years of aviation experience, we understand how crucial dependable air links are for our region and are proud to step up and operate this vital route. Our focus is on rebuilding confidence and offering reliability, and we look forward to providing passengers with the service they deserve.”

The Skybus flights from London Gatwick to Newquay will start on November 23. Find out more here.
