The London Eye is a simply unmissable component of the London skyline. If you’re nearby, it’s hard to miss its pods and supports peeking out from behind buildings and standing proudly by the Thames. Thanks to its position, it’s a prime location for visual displays to inspire the city and raise awareness of causes. As such, you’ll often find it lighting up with colourful displays throughout the year. And this week, on Friday, October 10 (that’s tomorrow!), the London Eye will light up with a purple display to mark World Mental Health Day.

If you want to catch the heartwarming display, you’ll need to keep an eye out after dark. (After all, lighting it up when you can’t see the colours during the day would be a bit pointless!) Luckily, the sun is setting earlier and the nights are getting longer, so you won’t need to be out too late to catch the London Eye’s purple display.

World Mental Health Day

It’s set to be a dazzling sight that will hopefully spark conversation and dialogue, as well as awareness. And if the sight makes you consider the people in your life, and reach out to just one person to check on them or ask for helpthen that small success will hopefully compound itself across everyone who sees it.

It’s important to remember, though, that mental health matters every day. Mental health charity MIND writes:

“Mental health matters on the days when everything happens and the days when nothing happens. When life is busy and unpredictable and when it’s quiet and ordinary too. That’s why we fight every day, to support more people tomorrow.

10 October is World Mental Health Day, but we want everyone to understand that mental health is important every day. Together we can make sure everyone sees it that way.”

Find out how you can get involved in the fight for mental health here.
