a paddington bear statue sat on a bench with a marmalade sandwich in hand

Back in October of 2024, a delightful visitor arrived in Marble Arch to raise awareness of his upcoming film, Paddington in Peru. At the time, you could find him just as a temporary display in Connaught Village. But such is our city’s and our nation’s love affair with the bear that we couldn’t bear to see him go. To save the bear, Marble Arch London BID has joined forces with The Church Commissioners for England to find a new permanent location for the much-loved Paddington statue.

You can now find the friendly bear taking a much-needed rest on a bench in Connaught Village Green – with a marmalade sandwich in hand, of course! He’s now sat at the heart of the local community, surrounded by greenery and the bustling small-town village feel of the area.

“Okay, but where is Connaught Village Green?” you may well be asking. It’s a new public space found at the junction of Connaught Street and Kendal Street. There you’ll find some gorgeous greenery and plenty of seating. It’s a properly tranquil spot to relax in the middle of London. And there’s now a bear-y lovely friend to enjoy the company of, too.

Said Kay Buxton, Chief Executive, Marble Arch London BID:

“Since his arrival in Connaught Village last year, Paddington has become a much-loved neighbour, delighting fans of all ages, bringing smiles to residents, children and visitors who pause to enjoy a photo. We have seen fans from across London and beyond come to visit Paddington, and in this new permanent location, visitors will be able to sit with Paddington and explore the many shops, cafes, restaurants, and attractions that Connaught Village has to offer.”

So, next time you find yourself with some spare time in London, why not go and make friends with a marmalade-sandwich-loving bear? Just be sure to pack your own sandwiches!

📍 You can find the Paddington Bear statue in Connaught Village Green. The nearest station is Marble Arch.
