the harrods store facade lit up with colourful lights

As the days get shorter, London’s nights are about to get brighter, rather than darker. With Diwali just a month away (October 20), the legendary Harrods department store has announced details of its program to celebrate the Festival of Lights. The store has been filled with celebratory spirit in anticipation of the event, as they show off new products and host special events. There will even be a dazzling light display that will take over the shopfront on Diwali.

The store’s famed facade will light up on October 20 with a celebratory display. It’s a first for the store, as glorious illumination will see “waves of bright colours light up the evening of Diwali across Knightsbridge”. Lighting up every hour from 6pm until 10pm that evening, the lights “invite visitors to celebrate the spirit of Diwali together with Harrods.”

Said Alexander Wells-Greco, the Creative Visual Director at Harrods:

“The Harrods façade is one of our most recognisable brand codes, known and admired across the world. To illuminate this iconic London landmark with a colourful light display in celebration of Diwali is a very special moment for our store – and a first for Harrods. Diwali, a festival of light and colour, is a time for joy, togetherness and new beginnings. The bold, dancing colours of our Diwali light display have been designed intentionally, to evoke the emotions and traditions of this important celebration.”

Diwali at Harrods

Harrods isn’t just stopping at a breathtaking light display for Diwali. Instead, they’re filling the store with celebration. Naturally, that means they’ve got plenty of new products to check out. At the centre of the Diwali at Harrods collection is The Harrods Diwali Giftbox, which features a luxurious selection of teas, snacks, candles, spices, and more. And if you head to the iconic Harrods Food Halls, you can enjoy the all-new Diwali Saffron Milk Cake. Drawing inspiration from the traditional Indian sweet, barfithe cake combines “a saffron-soaked Victoria sponge with a cardamom Chantilly cream topping and Dulcey pearls”.

As part of Harrods’ Diwali celebrations, the store is also hosting a series of events and collaborations. These range from beauty treatments and wellness masterclasses to talks with celebrated chefs and artists.

The store has also been suffused with the spirit of Diwali thanks to a collaboration with British-Indian artist Natasha Kumar. Kumar’s work is on display throughout the store and on the Harrods website.
