Hounslow Council, the Ministry of Defence (MOD), and the Greater London Authority (GLA) have today announced their intention to work together to deliver one of west London’s most ambitious regeneration projects on MOD land in Feltham.

As the centrepiece of Hounslow Council’s ‘Future Feltham’ masterplan this site will transform the town centre, breathing new life into the area and delivering a significant number of new homes, jobs, and community facilities. It marks a once-in-a-generation opportunity to unlock Hounslow’s largest brownfield site and accelerate Feltham’s wider regeneration.

The partnership between the GLA, Hounslow Council and the MOD will combine each organisation’s development and planning expertise to accelerate the delivery of the site. MOD Feltham is expected to contribute significantly to housing delivery in the borough, helping to provide the genuinely affordable housing that Londoners desperately need.

The housing-led scheme will be complemented by space for commercial and creative activities, creating a vibrant neighbourhood that will be reconnected to the surrounding area by a new network of streets and public transport connections through the site.

After the War Department (predecessor to the MOD) first acquired the land during the First World War, the MOD is continuing to invest in military infrastructure that will allow the relocation of existing operations and the release of the site for housing delivery. The site will adopt the trailblazer approach to development on public sector land that was announced in March, bringing together national, regional and local government to accelerate housebuilding with construction expected to commence in 2028.

Cllr Shantanu Rajawat, Leader of Hounslow Council, said:

Delivering growth and delivering for business is about more than profit. It’s about better affordable homes, sustainable and inclusive neighbourhoods, and crucially investing in our people and places, to help residents thrive. This trailblazing partnership is a bold step forward together we will turn a closed-off site into a place that works for local people, Londoners, and ensures a long-lasting legacy for our Borough.

Catherine Davies, Head of Estates at DIO, said

I’m very pleased to be working with Hounslow Council and Greater London Authority to promote the development of this important town centre site in Feltham. Three public authorities coming together with one vision offers a real opportunity for a creative outcome that will provide much needed housing and additional benefits for the local community. It will also enable re-investment elsewhere on the MOD estate to support operational needs.

Tom Copley, Deputy Mayor of London for Housing and Residential Development, said:

We’re pleased and proud to collaborate with MOD and the London Borough of Hounslow to help bring forward this site in Feltham which will enable the delivery of much needed homes, as well as new jobs and community facilities for Londoners. This trailblazer project is an opportunity to show what can be achieved when central, regional and local government work hand in hand to build a better, fairer, more prosperous London for everyone.

The Feltham MOD site is the centrepiece of the ‘Future Feltham’ programme of work which is set to be one of West London’s most ambitious regeneration programmes. With the intense Masterplan Refresh work underway Feltham as a whole, including MOD Feltham, has the opportunity to deliver; 3,000 new homes, including genuinely affordable housing, 9,200 new jobs across commercial, creative, and skills sectors, new community, leisure, and green spaces and enhanced connectivity and public realm improvements.
