British Airways is axing its once-daily London Gatwick to New York JFK route for good from October 25making it trickier for Londoners to hop between the two culturally twinned cities. While BA traditionally paused the Gatwick-JFK flight over winter, this year’s seasonal suspension will become permanent – with no spring comeback planned.
London-NYC: no more BA flights from Gatwick
For years, the BA flight running out of Gatwick offered a convenient alternative for south Londoners and those keen to avoid Heathrow’s sprawl. From late October onwards, if travellers want to fly between London and New York with British Airways, it’ll have to be via Heathrow, where the airline is keeping nine flights a day in action.

Travellers can still book direct from Gatwick to New York with Delta and Norse Atlanticbut BA loyalists lose a popular connection. The shift comes amid a broader flight cull to the US, spurred by dropping North American tourism; Norse, too, has axed six Europe-US routes, including its London Gatwick to Miami journey.
Rising fares for families
The loss of the Gatwick route is particularly impactful for families and budget-conscious travellers, as flights from Heathrow tend to cost more, especially for larger groups. Heathrow also tends to have pricier parking and transfer options, adding to the overall trip expense
New BA routes from Gatwick and Heathrow
It’s not all retreat, though: BA is ramping up its summer 2026 schedule from both Gatwick and Heathrowadding flights to sought-after destinations such as Bangkok, Kingston, and Las Vegas. The full list of new BA routes is set for release soon, but the message is clear – UK travellers can expect more variety elsewhere, just not that easy hop from south London to the Big Apple.
