Located just a stone’s throw away from iconic London landmarks including Nelson’s Column and the National Gallery, Trafalgar Theatre is known for exciting, bold new work in the West End. From Jamie Lloyd to Robert Icke, this Grade II listed building has attracted the biggest and brightest names in contemporary theatre.
The attractive Art Deco venue first opened as the Whitehall Theatre in the 1930s, and soon became a hub for comedies, farces and revues. After a stint as a television studio in the 1990s, the newly christened Trafalgar Studios opened in 2004. The two-studio venue, designed by Tim Foster and John Muir, became the first of its kind in central London.
In 2020, it was announced that Trafalgar Studios would re-open in 2021 as Trafalgar Theatre, with plans for Studio 1 and Studio 2 to be restored as one larger venue. The project involved reinstating heritage design features and improving seating, access and customer experience throughout. The Trafalgar Theatre opened in 2021 with a revival of smash-hit musical Jersey Boys , last seen in London at the Piccadilly Theatre from 2014-2017. The refurbishment has been an immense success, with Jersey Boys tickets becoming a firm favourite amongst West End audiences who want to enjoy the best of musical theatre in a venue fit for the 21st century.
