The British Embassy in Quito is proud to announce a major step forward in United Kingdom (UK)-Ecuador bilateral trade and cooperation with British company, Hydro Industries, securing three transformative water treatment contracts across Ecuador. These initiatives not only represent the largest commercial transaction by a UK company in Ecuador in recent years but also reflect the UK Government’s strategic commitment to promoting sustainable growth through global partnerships.

Hydro Industries, a leader in advanced water treatment technology, is a prime example of how British innovation is being deployed to address global challenges. As part of the UK’s Growth Strategy for International Trade and Investment, the UK Government is actively supporting companies that deliver high-impact solutions in sectors such as clean energy, infrastructure, and environmental resilience.

His Majesty’s Ambassador to Ecuador, Chris Campbell, highlighted the importance of this milestone:

Hydro Industries is more than a commercial success story; it is a delivery partner for the UK’s global strategy for sustainable growth. These projects show how British technology can be a catalyst for transformation, improving lives and protecting ecosystems. We are proud to support UK companies like Hydro Industries in expanding their footprint and impact in Ecuador.

The British Embassy Quito acknowledges the vital role of our Ecuadorean partners, local municipalities, public institutions, and technical teams whose leadership and openness to innovation have made these achievements possible.

The three initiatives include:

Quito: Expanding Clean Water Capacity

In partnership with EMGIRS, Hydro Industries installed a leachate treatment plant in 2024 that has already prevented toxic waste from reaching the Inga River. To date, the plant has produced over 208 million litres of clean water. A new contract will expand this capacity, further safeguarding the ecosystem and enhancing water access for the people of Quito.

Manta: A Vision for Long-Term Sustainability

Hydro Industries has signed a confidentiality agreement with the Municipality of Manta to advance a long-term public-private partnership aimed at scaling British water treatment technology locally. Construction is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2026, marking a major step toward building a more resilient and sustainable water infrastructure for the city.

Rocafuerte: Strategic Investment in Water Access

Under the directive of the Mayor of Rocafuerte, a 10-year strategic partnership is being launched to provide clean, safe drinking water to residents and clean water to support agricultural and industrial sectors. The initial contract is valued at over US$75 million, and both parties have committed to prioritising local workforce participation, ensuring that the benefits of the project are felt throughout the community.

All these projects are aligned with the UK’s broader ambition to be a trusted partner in Latin America.  Through the Department for Business and Trade (DBT), the UK Government is actively promoting British companies that offer scalable, sustainable solutions to global challenges. Hydro Industries’ success in Ecuador is a model for future collaboration across the wider region.
