The exterior of a farmhouse in Surrey

Gather round, folks – I come bearing yet another ravishing piece of real estate that’s in need of some new residents. The gorgeous gaff in question is perched over in Godalmingwhich is roughly an hour outside of London. It’s currently sat empty, but it was once occupied by Winston Churchill – and it is said to be in this very spot that the former Prime Minister found his flair for painting (but more on that in a moment).

The picture-perfect pad was built back in the 16th centuryand later reimagined by the renowned architect, Sir Edwin Lutyens. The property is perched upon three acres of beautiful private gardens, and comes complete with expensive lawns, three stables, and a tennis court. Not too shabby, hey?

The farmhouse is located within the scenic Surrey countrysideand is on the rental market with the property-pros over at Savills. If you’re interested in making yourself at home here, it will set you back (a somewhat eye-watering) £7,995 a monthbut – in the farmhouse’s defence – it does have a fair bit to offer.

Inside the property

Inside the spacious property, you’ll find the likes of a dining room, a sitting room, an open-plan kitchen, a family room, a unique split staircase, six bathrooms, and a whopping seven bedrooms. One of which is inside a separate annexe space outside. There’s also a wine cellar (naturally), a workshop room, three stables, and a tennis court. So, there’s plenty to keep you busy, I suppose. The property boasts charm and character in spades and Savills has described it as ‘a rare gem of architectural and historical importance’.

Now, onto those Churchillian links that I mentioned earlier. According to the nearby Godalming Museum, the farmouse on Hoe Lane was used as a retreat for Winston Churchill, alongside his wife and brother, in the summer of 1915. It’s said to be that whilst staying here, Churchill discovered his love of painting – and some reproductions of his early work, depicting the farmhouse in all its glory, is on display at the museum.

So, if you like your lodgings to come with a sizeable dollop of history and heritage; this might just be the perfect place for you.

You can have a peruse of the full property listing here.
