Listen up, Londoners. It seems as though the season for frolicking in fields of flowers could be hurtling towards an unexpected end, as the lav-liest spot in town (Mayfield Lavender Farm, of course) has just announced that they may have to shut up shop earlier than anticipated this year.

It turns out that – much like myself – lavender thrives in dry and warm conditions. And so the sunny weather we’ve been experiencing in the UK over the past few weeks has been pretty ideal for the fragrant flowers. And they’re set to reach peak bloom a few weeks sooner than usual.

Having had the warmest and sunniest spring on record (not that we’re complaining, dear weather gods); Mayfield will need to harvest the blooms earlier than expected. And the lav-ley lot over at Mayfield are urging potential visitors to head on down as soon as possiblerather than waiting until August.

Lorna Mayeowner of Mayfield Lavender Farm, said: “Lavender is highly weather-dependent, and peak bloom as well as the harvest date can never be precisely predicted. The field and the Secret Lavender Garden are looking wonderful, but because everything has flowered early, the season will end earlier too.”

So, what are you waiting for, folks? I think we’ve got our weekend plans officially sorted, hey?

Mayfield Lavender Farm are encouraging visitors to keep a close eye on their social media platforms to stay up to date with the farm’s potential closure. Find out more and plan your visit to Mayfield Lavender Farm here.
