The 'First Dates' restaurant in Paternoster SquareThe 'First Dates' restaurant in Paternoster Square

A shiny new wine bar will soon be setting up shop inside one of the capital’s most distinguishable dining spots. That’s right, folks – the iconic St Paul’s restaurant in which none other than Channel 4’s ‘First Dates’ was filmed is set to be transformed into London’s latest wine bar.

The venue’s grapey glow-up comes courtesy of the lovely lot over at Vagabond, who have been levelling up London’s wine bar scene since 2010, and clearly don’t plan on stopping any time soon. The site in Paternoster Square will be Vagabond’s new flagship site, and will mark their first new opening since being acquired by Majestic Wines last year.

Vagabond Wine Bars

The new Vagabond venue will be yet another perfect spot to sip, swirl, and savour a glass (or three) of grapey goodness. If you’re not already familiar with Vagabondallow me to introduce you to the rather revolutionary concept. Vagabond has answered the prayers of indecisive wine-lovers in the form of self-serve wine vending machines. Yes, really. They’re card-activated and allows visitors to sample lots of different wines, rather than having to commit to an entire bottle of just one.

It’s pretty simple, really. You arrive, top up your trusty card, and then enjoy an evening of tapping and tasting your way through the array of wines on offer. The new site inside the former ‘First Dates’ restaurants will have over 110 wines by the glass on offer (more than any of their other spots), and will have room for over 250 guests.

Alongside the abundance of wines, there will also be some delicious small plates to nibble on, making it a pretty perfect spot for – well… any occasion, really. A drink with your friends, a catch-up with a colleague, or – hey – maybe even a first date?

Christobell GilesManaging Director at Vagabondsaid: “TWe are incredibly proud to be opening in such a special spot and cannot wait to welcome guests in for their first glass — whether it is a first date, a fiftieth, or just a glass on your own while the world goes by. After a brilliant first year with Majestic, this is a really exciting step forward for us at Vagabond.”

Vagabond’s new flagship site will open in Paternoster Square in August. But in the meantime you can visit one of their many other sites scattered across the city. You can find out more and plan your visit here.
