Kobe Japanese Steakhouse is showcasing its signature and time-honoured approach to Teppanyaki-focused fare served with flair by debuting a new ‘Art of Teppanyaki’ set menu available March 24 toMay 31 at the beloved Downtown institution (1042 Alberni St.).

Offered Mondays to Thursdays from 5 to 11 p.m., Kobe’s Art of Teppanyaki menu features appetizers (seasonal vegetables, grilled shrimp, Shabu Shabu soup), flame-kissed and butter-basted tiger prawns, premium-cut sirloin steak and tender teriyaki chicken, sautéed bean sprouts, steamed Japanese rice and artisanal gelato for dessert for only $58 per person plus tax and gratuity.

Included with every dinner is the quintessential Kobe Steakhouse sense of hospitality and entertainment, as skilled master chefs and showmen elevate the experience by turning each visit into dinner and a show by preparing and serving up dishes with flair and panache before the eyes of delighted guests in a cozy and intimate enclave that exudes authentic Japanese ambiance at every turn.

Kobe’s roots go back to 1968, when Michael Bruser introduced Vancouver to a dining experience inspired by rural country inns and roadside eateries in Japan where home-spun fare was prepared using traditional teppanyaki-hibachi methods. In the 80’s Michael’s son Brian Bruser took the reins of the restaurant and has handled the operations since then. Now that role is being passed on to his son Dylan Bruser, representing the third generation of ownership at Kobe.

“We’re so grateful to the thousands of guests who have helped us become a staple of this city’s amazing culinary scene,” says Dylan. “We look forward to continuing to showcase what has made us an institution for locals and visitors alike since my grandfather opened the doors more than five decades ago.”

Other popular nightly menu options at Kobe include Steak & Lobster (tender aged sirloin and lobster tail sautéed in sake and flamed in brandy), The ‘Emperor’s Feast’ (filet mignon, succulent tiger prawns, tender Teriyaki chicken breast, Mario’s gelati), guest favourite ‘The Ultimate’ (perfectly aged New York steak and lobster tail sautéed in sake and flamed in brandy, tender Teriyaki chicken breast, delicately broiled Atlantic scallops and Mario’s gelati) and the show-stopping, melt-in-your-mouth beef known as ‘The Godzilla’ — Vancouver’s finest and most sought-after cut of juicy, highly marbled Wagyu beef hailing from Miyazaki Prefecture.
