People travelling into the Square Mile on Saturday 11 November to watch the biggest, noisiest and most colourful event in the ’s calendar are being encouraged to plan their journey carefully.
Transport for London (TfL) has advertised a series of alternative routes and replacement bus services into the City for The Lord Mayor’s Show to reduce travel disruption caused by the closure of four Tube lines, because of major engineering works taking place.
The Northern, Central, and Elizabeth lines will remain open all day, as well as London Overground, DLR, and Thameslink services, but the Circle, District, Hammersmith & City, and Jubilee lines will be closed until 3pm.
Alternative travel options for those attending The Lord Mayor’s Show are as follows:
- Central line to Bank, Liverpool Street, or St Paul’s (not step-free access)
- Northern line to Bank or Moorgate
- Elizabeth line to Farringdon or Liverpool Street
- DLR services to Bank
- Thameslink services to Blackfriars or City Thameslink
Nine rail replacement bus routes will also be in place during the closures.
TfL has also advised that there will be no service on the Metropolitan line between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Aldgate on 11 November until 3pm, and there will be no Jubilee line Night Tube services overnight on Friday 10 November.
TfL says that ‘real-time travel tools’, including Journey Planner and TfL Go, will provide up-to-date information for its customers, adding that a full service will resume on Sunday 12 November when Remembrance Sunday events will be held.
Over 7,000 people, 250 horses, and 150 floats are expected to take part in The Lord Mayor’s Show, cheered on by an estimated 250,000 people lining the streets, and millions watching the live BBC One coverage and online streaming.
After observing the national two-minute silence for Armistice Day at 11am, the procession will set off from the Lord Mayor’s official residence, The Mansion House.
Joining Lord Mayor Michael Mainelli in the three-mile-long parade will be floats representing City charities, schools, community groups, musicians, performers, financial institutions, military bands, and Livery companies.
The parade will flow through Bank Junction, where the ‘All Change at Bank’ construction works will be completed in spring 2024 to provide a more pleasant area for City workers, residents, and visitors to travel through, and spend time in.
As ever, the safety and security of all of those participating and visiting this year’s Show is of vital importance, and the Police will carry out highly visible and undercover patrols before, during, and after the event.
