The Golden Bachelor‘s Joan Vassos’ relationship with Chock Chapple has come under scrutiny, and Joan is not handling it well and has performed poorly. The Golden Bachelor season 1 was filmed in July 2024 and aired from September 2024 to November 2024. Joan started the journey with 24 eligible Golden suitors, but narrowed it down to the top four: Chock, Pascal Ibgui, Jordan Heller and Guy Gansert.

Joan felt Jordan wasn’t vulnerable enough and eliminated her, forcing her to bring Chock, Pascal and Guy to Tahiti. Pascal was eliminated himself, and Chock had been ahead of Joan all season. Joan eventually chose Chock, and the couple left the experience engaged. However, Chock presented red flags and his and Joan’s relationship has been criticized. The couple is now in the public eye, and Joan is weighed down by the negativity surrounding their reception.

Joan & Chock has not been received positively

Chock didn’t get many fans

Chock divorced the mother of his two children and was engaged to another woman for 12 years before her death. Chock’s inability to follow through on relationships and his noncommittal behavior is condemned author The Golden Bachelor viewers. During the show, Chock was relentless in his pursuit of Joan, leading Pascal to call Chock a “stalker”. He was very possessive of Joan and was considered dishonest and overly trusting. Fans don’t think Chock is the right match for Joan based on these factors. Also, the couple is long distance.

Joan is overcompensating

Joan Projects She and Chock are perfect

Joan shows a very rosy picture of her relationship with Chock. Joan has gone out of her way to share many Instagram posts depicting the allegedly happy and carefree nature of her and Chock’s relationship. However, it looks like Joan is paying too much. Instead of giving honest descriptions of the challenges he and Chock face, Joan decides to turn around and give an unrealistic performance. He doesn’t take a stand on any public scrutiny, which is not a good look. The only negative thing he has focused on is family reunification.

Joan has stated that she is struggling

“A little harder right now”

Over Thanksgiving, Chock and his family went to Joan’s native Maryland to spend the holidays with her and her family. Then Joan and Chock spent two weeks apart before Christmas. After Chock was back in Maryland for Christmas, Joan went to Chock’s native Kansas for New Year’s. When discussing the back-and-forth nature of their holiday season and their family reunion, Joan described the situation “A little harder right now.”

Joan doesn’t talk about the problems they face, which adds to the negative perception of their long-distance relationship.

If Joan were more open about the struggles she and Chock faced, it would stop the speculation. The Golden Bachelor‘s Joan doesn’t handle the audience’s microscope on her and Chock’s imperfect relationship well, and he does not present an accurate picture.

The Golden Bachelor season 1 is available to stream on Hulu.
