Nestled in the heart of the capital, Fitzrovia Chapel is a beloved art space that’s housed inside one of the many historic buildings in central London, boasting so many remarkable stories to tell within its hallowed halls. The chapel is a neo-Gothic gem that once served as the spiritual sanctuary for Middlesex Hospital – which slowly but surely transitioned into the must-visit art gallery we know today, all while remaining an etheral cornerstone of the Fitzrovia community.
Their latest offering is an exciting exhibition that’s spotlighting eleven contemporary artists in partnership with the legendary Roberts Institute of Art. It’s an introspective journey through enticing artworks, encouraging the viewer to start ‘paying attention in a fragile world’.
Entitled In Attendancethis immersive exhibition is kicking off the chapel’s renowned cultural programme for 2025, including works by artists such as Etel Adnan, Emmanuel Awuni, Phyllida Barlow, and many more. There’s even some never-before-seen artworks by the likes of Rachel Kneebone and Eve Sussman, so it’s a guaranteed treat if you’re into galleries and contemporary art.
It’s an immense reflection on the chapel’s commitment to presenting thought-provoking exhibitions that resonate with both its heritage and contemporary societal themes.
This exhibition specifically asks us to lean into compassion, celebrating how attention can help us to remain open and receptiverather than always seeking solutions and answers.
From self-discovery to connection and togetherness, many themes are brought to life in this gorgeous space, mystifying the works even further thanks to its holy and reflective nature.
