The Netflix and BBC One limited series reveals Pip Fitz-Amob’s (Emma Myers) investigation into Andie Bell’s (India Lillie Davies) death while trying to figure out why her boyfriend Sal (Rahul Pattni) was the prime suspect.
Pip’s investigation leads to various twists and turns, and he even reveals a heartbreaking revelation about Sal’s death that involves a close family friend: Elliot (Matthew Baynton).

Why is Sal framed for Andie Bell’s murder?
The police’s preliminary investigation revealed that Sal confessed to his father in a text message that he murdered Andie. The text said, “It was me. I did it. I’m so sorry.”
Her body was found days later and was ruled a murder-suicide by police.
Five years later, Pip worked with Sal’s brother Ravi (Zain Iqbal) to investigate the case more closely, as they believed Sal was innocent and it was too easy to dismiss the crime as the end of the case.
Pip managed to retrieve Sal’s phone from Ravi and together they discovered that the text he apparently sent was grammatically correct and punctuated, which was unusual for him as his other texts were incomplete.
This particular detail was more than enough for Pip and Ravi to begin their investigation, eventually leading to the discovery that Elliot was behind it all.
This is why Elliot killed Sal in The Good Girl’s Murder Guide
Elliot Ward is Andie, Sal and Pip’s English teacher and Pip’s best friend Cara’s father. He was also the one who killed Sal and disposed of his body.
It was revealed that Elliot shoved sleeping pills down Sal’s throat because he wanted to frame Sal for Andie’s death. He believed that he could get away with it if he led the police to reveal that it was a murder-suicide.
Elliot was also the one who sent the confession text on Sal’s phone, which explains why the message was grammatically correct.
Although his plan almost worked, it wasn’t until Pip and Ravi came to the rescue and finally proved Sal’s innocence.
Elliot’s close ties to Pip made it even harder for the young scientist to bear, as his capture meant that Cara would lose her father.
Elliot was also the “Secret Older Guy” who had a secret, inappropriate relationship with Andie.
On the night of Andie’s death, Elliot revealed that they had a heated argument when she tried to ask for money to leave town and be with Sal.
He refused to give her money and even pushed her away, resulting in her head hitting the worktop. This led to Andie’s death when Becca, her sister, pushed her again during an argument at their home.
Looking at the bigger picture, all roads trace back to Elliot’s inappropriate relationship with Andie, which set off a domino effect that led to the killing of two students.
There was also a girl named Isla who he confessed to his crime and locked in the attic of his old home so he couldn’t call the police.
At the end of the day, Elliot isn’t the good guy everyone sees him as, deep down, he’s a monster.
