Summary
- Reverend Cal struggled to get Brennan to talk about the loss of attraction, which hindered his and Emily’s progress.
- Dr. Pepper and Reverend Cal fail to help Becca and Austin with their intimacy issues, leading to fights.
- Dr. Pia caused more problems between Brennan and Emily and showed the experts’ inability to help couples.
The Married at first sight season 17 experts didn’t serve their purpose and failed couples in the exam. Dr. Pepper Schwartz, Reverend Calvin “Cal” Roberson and Dr. Pia Holec were the experts responsible for coordinating Denver’s wishes, guiding them through the challenging journey and advising them to stay on track. The experts faced Emily Balch and Brennan Shoykhet, Lauren Goodger and Orion Martzloff, Becca Haley and Austin Reed, Clare Kerr and Cameron Frazer, and Michael Shiakkalis and Chloe Brown.
On the day of the finale, only Becca and Austin said yes to each other despite the many turbulent issues they had. Emily and Brennan said no to each other, and Cameron and Clare said no to each other one more time after their breakup on their one-month anniversary. Orion asked Lauren for a divorce right after their standoff, and Married at first sight Viewers have yet to find out the outcome of Michael and Chloe’s marriage decision. Given the many failures of Season 17, the pundits can be blamed for most of it.

Ongoing strikes in the entertainment industry are affecting television, which is why many are turning to reality TV. What are the best shows right now?
8 Pastor Cal couldn’t get Brennan to talk about the loss of attraction
Brennan kept close
Although Emily and Brennan had a positive and bonding honeymoon, Brennan switched services after returning to Denver. He spent the first few days after their return in his own apartment, away from Emily, and declared that he had lost affection for her. Emily and Brennan sat down with Reverend Cal to find out what Brennan’s problem was, although Reverend Cal didn’t get any answers or clues from Brennan (via ET.) At that time, it was necessary for Rev. Cal to get Brennan to open up because the lack of transparency was going to cause big problems for Emily and Brennan going forward.
“We’re not doing that,” Brennan told Reverend Cal when Reverend Cal asked what about Emily, who he wasn’t interested in.
7 Reverend Cal and Dr. Pepper didn’t help Becca and Austin in the vicinity
Pastor Cal and Dr. Pepper lacked resources
The experts tried a new tactic when Becca and Austin hit a wall due to their lack of intimacy and mutual distrust. Both Reverend Cal and Dr. Pepper met with them to offer varying perspectives on their key issues and how to move forward. However, it seems so the Married at first sight experts didn’t understand Austin’s triggers and how Becca should react to them, as the couple had more fights about the same things discussed during the session, proving that the experts failed.
6 Dr. Pia caused more problems between Brennan and Emily
An ugly therapy session went viral
After facing more problems stemming from Brennan’s mysterious loss of attraction to Emily, the pair had a session with Dr. Pia, who became agitated. Brennan wouldn’t let Emily speak her mind, which struck Dr. Pia. They had an uncomfortable conversation that resulted in Brennan reluctantly agreeing to Dr. Pia’s tutelage let Emily speak (interv Lifespan.)
Dr. Pia had a visible attitude towards Brennan and tried to hold her accountable by telling her that she could benefit from therapy.
Brennan walked out of the session feeling bitter, making things more awkward and difficult for Emily, who seemed to be on the side of Dr. Pia’s views and advice.
The session caused more friction between Brennan and Emily and was another example of how the experts couldn’t figure out how to resonate with Brennan to fix her Married at first sight marriage to Emily.
5 The experts chose the wrong bride for Michael
Michael was devastated
Inside something Married at first sight First, there was a runaway bride at the altar. The victim in the disastrous situation was Michael. The experts chose a bride who went through all the motions to prepare for the experience, but backed out at the last second (via ET.)
“I don’t think I can do this,” the mystery woman told Michael before leaving.
Michael’s wishes and feelings were in the palms of the experts and they failed miserably at matching. They should have seen signs that Michael’s first bride wasn’t ready to commit and didn’t choose him.
4 The experts didn’t come to help Clare & Cameron earlier
There were deeper problems going on
Clare and Cameron seemed to bond well at the wedding, but they had many misfires on the wedding night and during their honeymoon. This led to Clare not being interested in Cameron, Cameron not getting the validation she needed, and Clare trying to avoid meeting Cameron where she needed to be romantically. During the closing date Experts agreed that Cameron and Clare needed their guidance and input much sooner as it was given.
When Dr. Pia sat down with the couple, they had practically decided to break things off.
Cameron and Clare’s deeper issues weren’t addressed in the beginning, leading to a quick and complete meltdown of any chemistry they might have had, and the experts could have saved them from themselves.
The Married at first sight The experts didn’t serve their purpose with Cameron and Clare and should be the biggest reason the couple failed.
3 The experts didn’t help Lauren & Orion get over their honeymoon split
Lauren & Orion had no chance
During the honeymoon, Lauren’s insensitive joke that hurt Orion, and between Orion hurting Lauren by shaming her about her intimate sexual past and then turning her feelings on it, they seemed deeply troubled. They clearly needed the help of experts to sort out the uncomfortable situations that arose and learn from them. However, experts were unable to identify what Lauren and Orion needed to get back together and rebuild trust and acceptance.
The experts stayed afloat and did not challenge Orion to stop playing the victim and see the bigger picture. Dr. Pepper didn’t even try to help the situation, even though the couple needed all the help they could get. Because the experts didn’t do their job properly, Lauren and Orion’s marriage falls apart.
2 The experts took no responsibility for Michael’s incompatibility
The experts stood by the precedent
Addressing Michael’s runaway bride situation with Michael after he had time to process, Dr. Pepper apologized on behalf of the experts for the sad outcome, but did not accept responsibility. Instead Married at first sight Experts stood by the precedent and mention that there had never been an altercation, which seemed like an aberration. It was their job to get it rightand they failed miserably.
1 The experts allow Becca and Austin to go off the rails after the final day
Problems appeared on the same evening as the day of the decision
Becca and Austin walked away from closing day in a very sensitive place. They had just come off a series of fights involving Becca’s issues with Austin’s lack of physical intimacy and Austin’s issues with Becca trying to make him look bad on camera. Even if you said yes and committed to each other by experimenting with their relationship off camera, Becca was offended that Austin went out with Brennan and their female producer later the same day as the finale.
The experts didn’t check in with either party that night, and Becca joined them Married at first sight the season 17 team meeting the next day caught fire and broke up with Austin. Because Becca and Austin left the care of the experts in such a fragile place, they should have been given more attention in order for the only original surviving couple to succeed. The experts have shown their inability to do their jobs in Season 17, and in doing so, they let the couples down.
