Jon Chu 2024 Evil the movie finally has a rating, and it might surprise some.
The upcoming movie musical will serve as the first installment of the iconic Broadway story to be set in the world The Wizard of Oz.
Starring the likes of Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, the film traces the origins of the Wicked Witch of the West (pictured in the 1939 Hollywood classic), following the beloved movie villain as he investigates what makes a person deeply evil.

Waiting for the future Evil movie, the 2024 movie is officially rated.
To the surprise of some, the film will be rated PG (per FilmRatings) when it hits theaters in November. The film’s official rating description quotes “scary action, thematic material and brief suggestive material:”
“Rated PG for scary action, thematic material and brief suggestive material.”
This rating may be surprising as many had thought Evil the movie was PG-13 when it was released.
The Evil the story deals with rather dark and mature subject matter, leading many to assume that it would have an equally mature rating – especially considering that Evil the film has plenty of time to delve into those darker themes since it’s split into two feature-length films.
Recommended age Evil the musical is eight and older, and children under the age of five are not allowed in the performances (through the official Evil website).
What to expect from Wicked Movie?
Although its PG rating may disappoint some hoping fans Evil movie would dive deep into some of the more intense themes of the Book the musical is based on, it makes sense why the movie would take this direction.
Many hoped this would be a more faithful adaptation of Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel, but a film that leans towards the more family-friendly style of the Broadway musical seems like an obvious choice.
This is especially true since most are diehards Evil fans know the story from its musical iteration and not from the book on which the musical is based.
Although PG-13 films have broken into the mainstream, such as Avatar and Avengers: Endgame (two of the highest grossing movies of all time) the sports rating may still have some hesitancy with parents and may cause their family to watch something higher than PG.
This classification ensures the widest appeal Evil movie. This adaptation is a big play for Universal Pictures, and the studio is hoping for as much profit as possible.
While the film likely would have been a big hit based on name recognition alone, achieving a PG rating could help it appeal to an even wider audience and boost the box office even further.
