137 Pillars Suites and Residences holds the title for the most ridiculous pool in the city

On our 2026 trip to Thailand, one of the best hotels we stayed at was 137 Pillars House, up in Chiang Mai. Located on the historic site of the old Borneo Company headquarters, it is a beautiful, serene property of teak buildings and manicured gardens, a world away from the busy city streets.

On our return to Bangkok then, we were very keen to check out its sister hotel, the 137 Pillars Suites and Residences. Opened in 2017 in the Sukhumvit area of Bangkok, the hotel is a completely different vibe to its Chiang Mai counterpart, occupying the upper floors of a tall city building rather than the low-rise teak houses and gardens of 137 Pillars House.

As the name suggests, 137 Bangkok is comprised of both hotel suites (of which there are 34) as well as 179 residences, which are available either for purchase or long-term rental. As much as we’d like to move in long-term, for this trip we checked into one of the 34 suites, which actually still had a very apartment-like feel, complete with a small kitchenette, living room, and walk-in wardrobe. There’s also lots of artworks, soft lighting, colourful lampshades, coffee tables, books – all of which contribute to that homely feel.

The bedroom features a massive king-size bed, cosy carpets and armchairs, a TV and epic views through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Next door is a bright marble clad bathroom with double vanity sink, shower, and a huge round tub, with its own TV built into the wall for some bath time viewing. The best part of the room however has to be the outdoor balcony, which not only has amazing views but also a couple of sun loungers to soak up the Bangkok rays.

Each of the suites allows access to one of the hotel’s standout features – the rooftop infinity pool. If we liked the pool at 137 Pillars House Chiang Mai, then we absolutely loved this one, perched high above the city. In this part of town, there aren’t too many neighbouring buildings of a similar height, so you really do feel at the top of the world when swimming up here. And we loved that it was open 24 hours too – we can highly recommend a midnight swim. There’s also a pool on the 27th floor, which is bigger and also very nice, but it’s hard to beat the rooftop.

Other great benefits include the breakfast at the Baan Borneo Club, which you can take anytime between 7am and 5pm (perfect if you are jet lagged and waking up after lunch) as well as complimentary sundowner drinks every night.

Elsewhere on the dining front, the 27th floor Nimitr Restaurant has sweeping city views and a menu of classic Thai dishes. Down in the lobby, Bangkok Trading Post keeps things more relaxed with an all-day bistro offering, while Jack Bain’s Bar leans into a speakeasy vibe, offering up Thai–British fusion cocktails.

137 Pillars Suites and Residences is one of our favourite Bangkok hotels; it has a great location, comfy apartment-style rooms, and surely one of the best pools in the city. We also love the long-stay feature for longer trips – definitely worth a look for your next Bangkok adventure.
