Actor Zac Efron has been accused of plastic surgery, but the truth behind his new look lies in a tragic jaw accident.
Found fame in the early 2000s as a teenage heartthrob thanks to her High school musicalZac Efron is now taking on more mature roles at the age of 36 in projects such as Iron Claw, The Greatest Showmanand A family thing.
His latest role is in a Netflix rom-com A family thingin which he plays self-absorbed Hollywood sensation Chris Cole.
Why did Zac Efron break his face?
In an interview with Men’s Health magazine in September 2022, Zac Efron revealed that he injured his face several years earlier in a jaw accident at home. The actress said she slipped while running through her house in socks, causing her to fall and hit her face on the granite corner of the fountain.
Efron revealed that he was knocked unconscious in the crash and woke up with a jawbone hanging from his face, starting a long recovery process. He also told Entertainment Tonight about the severity of his injuries and how he “almost died.”
To aid his recovery from injury, High school musical the star explained how certain facial muscles grew significantly thanks to these exercises. “The sails just got bigger. They just got really, really big.”
He added that when the facial muscles work “like a symphony” some parts had to compensate for what was weakened by the injury, which explains how these larger muscles led to his widened jawline.
Has Zac Efron had plastic surgery?
Fans have been questioning whether Zac Efron has undergone plastic surgery for several years after the shape of his jawline changed significantly. However, it appears that these changes are solely due to his recovery from his facial injury.
Before the Disney star finally revealed the details of his jaw injury to Men’s Health, many speculated that Efron had gone under the knife with plastic surgery.
During the same session, Efron spoke about how he only found out about the plastic surgery allegations until his mother questioned him about them. He told how he “I couldn’t do this job” if online gossip bothers as much as some people think it does:
“If I valued what other people thought of me as much as they might think I do. I really couldn’t do this job.”
Celebrity plastic surgeon Dr. Sam Zizk suggested to The New York Post that Efron might have “(exactly) about the occasion” Thu “do something better” and gone through some “jaw advancement” during recovery from injury:
“He probably took the opportunity, in addition to fixing it, to do something better. She may have had chin development where they pull her chin forward a little more because her chin looks a little more prominent. Or a chin implant or mandibular angle implants or all of the above.”
He added that the actor now has “more arches” around his eyebrows, which might refer to him “had some kind of brow lift or Botox:”
“She always had straight eyebrows, and now they’re more arched. Her eyebrows are slightly higher, suggesting she had some sort of brow lift or Botox.
Rizk pointed out Efron “most likely” she had filler injected into her cheeks as usual “don’t get fuller with age:”
“Cheeks don’t get fuller with age. You lose volume in your cheeks as you age. When she was younger, she had flatter cheeks.”
A family thing filmed from August to October 2022, just before he started production on A24 Iron Claw in the same month. As such, while filming the Netflix romcom, Efron was in the midst of a major physical transformation as he gained 15 pounds of muscle to play wrestler Kevin Von Erich.
