Look, I’ll be the first to admit that train travel in this country isn’t always the most enjoyable. However, fromage fanatics of the capital city should continue reading, because we’ve found a journey that’s going to be right up your street train track. Now, I know what you’re thinking: why would a train journey be so exciting for cheese-lovers? Well, my gouda friends, because this is no ordinary train. This is the Kent Cheese Trainand – quite honestly – no mode of transport has ever sounded so appealing.

The train journey

Guests will arrive and board a vintage 1960s Spa Valley Railway train at Eridge station, before setting off on a picturesque journey to Tunbridge Wells West and back again. The steam-hauled heritage carriage will whisk passengers through the Kent countrysideboasting some delicious views and some even more delicious train snacks. Passengers will have the chance to gorge on a selection of locally-sourced cheese and accompaniments, before arriving back at their starting point around an hour later.

The cheese

The cheese on board is all provided by The Cheese Shopa local – yes, you guessed it – cheese shop, based in Tunbridge Wells. Each passenger will receive a selection box of four different cheeses to sink their teeth into during the journey, including Winterdale Shaw (a smooth and buttery cheddar-style cheese), Kentish Blue (a firm blue cheese), Sussex Brie (featuring grassy notes and a hint of nuttiness), and Mayfield (a sweet, nutty and creamy cheese). Unfortunately the experience cannot cater to specific dietary requirements and allergies, so be sure to check the website beforehand to make sure it’s suitable for you!

What’s included in the experience?

For just £35 per personguests will get to take an hour-long ride on a gorgeous vintage steam train through the depths of the Kent countryside. The tickets are valid all day, so you can stay on the train for as long as your like (subject to space).
