New poster a Friday The Netflix remake led to further speculation that the film could soon be available on the streaming service.
Friday is headlined by Chris Tucker and Ice Cube. It revolves around two unemployed friends who become involved with a dangerous drug dealer and come into conflict with a neighborhood bully in South Los Angeles.
The film was released in theaters on April 26, 1995, and spawned two sequels: Next Friday in 2000 and Friday After Next in 2002.
Chris Tucker’s Friday Remake Viral Poster Explained
Chris Tucker poster Friday A remake shared on Facebook led fans to believe that the film will soon be released on Netflix.
In the poster, Smokey (Tucker) sits on a rooftop smoking marijuana while looking out over downtown South Los Angeles. It also contains the name of the movie, Fridaywith smoke effects and a tag that reads “Netflix Original.”
Unfortunately Friday remake from Netflix not happening anytime soon because the poster is fake and created by artificial intelligence.
Will a remake or a sequel be released on Friday?
Although the poster is a fake, Ice Cube and Chris Tucker have been discussing another one Friday film in previous interviews.
Speaking in an interview with Hip Hop DX in October 2022, Ice Cube said that Warner Bros. rejected two manuscripts for the fourth installment. Friday in the franchise agreement, and he pointed that out “they don’t believe in culture:”
“I’m trying to get it out of Warner Brothers, they don’t believe in culture guys. I had two scripts. I wrote one; it was shit. They said, ‘Yeah, we don’t want Craig and Day-Day in jail because Craig and Day-Day went to jail for weed for selling before it was legal!”
The actor also revealed more details about his second script, noting that it revolves around a clash between the youngsters and the hooded OGs:
“Then when they dropped it, they had all these fucking movies about going to jail:’Orange Is The New Black’ …’Get Hard’. So then I wrote another script and the script was really about… the young guys in the hood have a beef with OG and Craig has to come back and squash it because Smokey’s son is the new Deebo and he’s wylin!
In a separate interview with V-103 Atlanta (via Hip Hop DX), Chris Tucker shared the challenges behind making the second film, saying it all boils down to the studio:
“It’s studios, and if they have to want to do it, and then producers and everything, so it’s a lot, it’s a lot to do with it.”
Still, Tucker said he’s willing to star in another if he can go in and “have a lot of fun” with it:
“I don’t know, it’s got to come back because, like I said, right now I’m just doing things that I know I could do my best and have fun with. Gotta be right.”
Despite the challenges of bringing another Friday movie to the big screen, Ice Cube offered an exciting update on the second installment during an appearance on Flavor Flav’s SiriusXM show (via Billboard ) in June 2024.
The actor confirmed that they are “work on it” saying that they “I finally got hold” with the studio under the new leadership of Michael DeLuca:
“We’re working on it. We finally got some traction with Warner Bros. They have new leadership. My husband, Mike DeLuca — who was with New Line when I first started, when I did the first one.Friday’ and ‘Players Club and ‘All about Benjamins – Mike DeLuca was there. So now he runs Warner Bros. And she and my husband, Michael Gruber, were like, “Yeah, what the hell is going on.” Friday? Man, let’s put this back online.”
Considering Ice Cube’s last update a few months ago, work on the next part Friday the franchise may be gaining momentum behind the scenes, which is a good sign for die-hard fans of the first film.
The virality of the poster indicates an interest in the other Friday movie, and fans are hoping that more concrete updates will continue to emerge in the coming months.
