New frame rate bug Marvel’s Rivals players hulk hit their settings as the game becomes a delayed mess.

NetEase’s online multiplayer shooter set in the wonderful world of Marvel’s comic Book characters has become a huge hit. More than 20 million players have already tried the free-to-play game, which recently broke the record for the most simultaneous PC users at one time with more than 600,000.

Since its release, the game has played relatively smoothly. Sure, there have been hiccups here and there (most of which were fixed with patches and updates). But because of the name’s always-online, ever-evolving nature, problems are bound to arise.

Why is Marvel Rivals running so poorly?

A recent bug has been spotted by fans Marvel’s Rivals which caused the game to lag (strangely enough) depending on the player’s framerate.

Originally spotted by @Remy_OW on X (formerly Twitter), this new framerate bug appears to cause a player’s Ping (or Packet Internet) to increase depending on what frames per second setting they are playing the game at.

For those who don’t know, Ping is a measure of the strength of the connection to a particular host, and is used by many as a metric in modern games to determine how well a match can go in terms of connectivity. In most cases, the higher the PING, the greater the chance of stuttering, lag, or dropped connections.

In @Remy_OW’s initial testing, he saw his ping go up every time he increased the game’s framerate, resulting in a massive 66 Ping when using the uncapped framerate.

Check out @Remy_OW’s observations below:

It is currently unknown what is causing this huge frame rate error, but since its initial report, users around the world Marel Competitors the community has spoken up and said they have the same problem.

Some have speculated that the delay may be due to this Competitors the server has to transmit more data to the user as the frame rate increases, causing instability in the connection to the host.

The Marvel’s Rivals the team has begun to address the issue with several bug fixes since the release of the game’s first major season (read more about some Marvel’s Rivals Season 1 changes here), but for some the delayed experience will continue.

How to fix lag in Marvel Rivals

Currently, no all-inclusive fix has been pushed Marvel’s Rivals to fix this particular framerate bug, but some kind of patch is surely coming.

So far, in the relatively young age of the game, the NetEase Games team has proven to have their ears to the ground for their community and act quickly to update the game when issues arise (just look at how they patched various character assets just days after launch).

Until then, the best way to fix this problem is (although some may shudder at the thought of it) to drop the game to 30fps to avoid large lag spikes.

One can also ensure that their network connection is as unobstructed as possible to avoid any additional delay that may come from other sources.

Ways to do this include using a wired connection instead of Wi-Fi, maintaining a clear network environment by removing devices from the local network to avoid unnecessary strain on the connection, or lowering the game’s graphics settings.

Marvel’s Rivals is now available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
