The Golden Bachelor star Mark Anderson may be cast The Golden Bachelorand if he is, I think Mark might be a “producer factory” brought into the series to try and improve its reputation. Right now, Gerry Turner has been called out after his stint on the show ended in disaster in the form of a divorce. If Gerry were allowed to try to clean up the show’s reputation, the producers could make him do things that don’t come straight from the heart. For example, he may be forced to marry before he is really ready.
Gerry seemed like the ultimate Romeo – an aging prince charming straight out of a fairy tale. It seemed like he would do anything for his true love. If there was a “golden years” Ken doll to give Barbie her best love, it would probably look just like Gerry Turner. But Gerry is no romantic hero. In the end, he didn’t even leave Indiana for Theresa Nist.
After the breakup, she mocked her ex by dressing up as “Indiana… it’s not that bad!” t-shirt. This about face made it all too easy to be cynical about the series.

There is more depth because the Actors have really lived. Sometimes they have been widowed and lost the love of their life. The backlash against Gerry showed that people expected more from this series than the usual attention-seeking antics. A three month marriage like Gerry and Theresa had was not the ending Disney would have written and people didn’t want it. Gerry and Theresa needed:
- drive off into the sunset
- love each other forever
I think people wanted to see something genuine and they tried to believe Gerry. When things fell apart, he got blamed, which I don’t think was entirely fair. After all, Theresa wouldn’t move to Indiana for Gerry. However, many of us who were basically brainwashed by Disney content as kids wanted to see real love on screen. We wanted to see the man act like Prince Charming without it being an act.
If Mark can deliver this, the fans will reward him. If he fails because the producers pushed him in the wrong direction, scared him, or for some other reason, he becomes a Disney villain.
Romeo from Shakespeare Romeo and Juliet died for his love. Disney’s cookie-cutter handsome Prince Charmings are completely devoted to their princesses—there are no wandering eyes, power-chasing, or hopeless insecurity. What The Golden Bachelor what you really need is a real Prince Charming. He doesn’t have to meet a tragic end for love, but he has to be sincere and really present to his partner. Is Mark such a precious gem? He has the raw materials, but the past can prevent him from giving his all to the new.
Mark seems like goodness personified. He lost his wife Denise Anderson to breast cancer and it was so painful and heartbreaking. Then she had to take care of five children alone. Instead of giving up, she gave her children so much love. Working and taking care of his family must have been exhausting, but as his devoted daughter Kelsey Anderson (who brought him to Bachelor Nation) has said, Mark did an amazing job. She thinks the world of him.
Producers know that Mark was adorable on Kelsey’s hometown date with Joey Graziadei in
Bachelor
season 28. That’s the main reason why he might be a producer factory.
Mark has what it takes to find love, but the producers have to get out of the way. They need to let love blossom organically. Pushing and pulling the mark has little effect. He is a Taurus and they are stubborn people. In fact, if the producers push Mark too much, he might rebel or become disillusioned with the process. Love is mystical – it can actually develop on reality TV, but it’s rare. It remains to be seen whether the producer’s intervention will spoil the future The Golden Bachelor starring Mark – but it could definitely happen.
