4 fun facts about Victor Alli
There is a lot of excitement around Victor Alli, especially among them Bridgerton fans. The six-inch-tall actress is originally from London and has a wide range of previous credits including (but not limited to) theatre, voice acting and of course film and TV.
Alli planned to become a musician before becoming an actor
In a recent interview, Alli told L’officiel that not only did he originally intend to be a musician instead of an actor, but that he switched to acting by accident.
He told L’officiel that he went to music school when he was younger and “played a lot of different instruments.” He was particularly interested in drums before acting “found (him) strangely:”
“I’ve always been quite interested in the arts and music and acting, especially music. I went to music school as a kid and played a lot of different instruments and I thought that was my calling. I thought I was going to be a drummer. I didn’t go hunting or trying to be an actor, it just found me in a strange way.
In class, Alli “was quite mischievous” which led him to many arrests. One such arrest was held by a teacher who “directed the play” and one of the actors in the play “did not appear.” Alli said the teacher “threw” manuscript to him and asked if he could read:
“I was pretty mischievous when I was young. I wasn’t naughty, I was just mischievous. I was like the class clown. I got a lot of detentions. This one particular detention, the teacher who was running it was directing a play. The actor who was in the play didn’t show up, so he handed me script, threw it at me and said, “Can you read?” I was like, “Yeah, sure I can.
He realized “I really, really enjoyed it” works through this experience. He transferred to a performing arts school – one with famous alumni – and “discovered more about acting.” From there the rest was history:
“I found I really, really liked it. From there I went to The BRIT School, it’s a performing arts school. It’s had great musicians and actors, Amy Winehouse, Adele. I learned more about acting and Shakespeare there and I loved it.
Alli appeared in three Shakespeare plays at RADA
Alli studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 2016–2019. While studying there, he appeared in several Academy productions, including three different plays by William Shakespeare.
In RADA, Alli played Buckingham Richard IIIEnter Demetrius A Midsummer Night’s Dreamand Lord Capulet enters Romeo and Juliet.
He has several other RADA reviews outside of Shakespeare writing, including The Wolf/Narrator in the musical To the forestand Achilles entered Iphigenia in the courts.
Alli recently told Rolling Stone UK that she learned it while at RADA “Acting is more about what you don’t say than what you do:”
“One of the things that really resonated with me about RADA is that despite what people think, acting is more about what you don’t say than what you do. There’s something very special about communicating with someone who doesn’t have words. “
Alli has many passions, from jazz to architecture
In an interview with Flanelle Magazine, Alli talked about her passions outside of acting.
He started jazz music and told Flanelle he was going to Ronnie Scott’s jazz club “at least once a month” hear “the sweet tones of a jazz band:”
“Besides acting, I have many other interests, including music—especially jazz. You can find me at least once a month at Ronnie Scott’s, sipping a Negroni and listening to the sweet, sweet tones of a jazz band.”
Alli then discussed her passion for visual arts. He spoke of having recently seen artist Frank Auerbach’s charcoal paintings and called the work “incredibly, cruelly, shockingly beautiful:”
“I also love art. I recently went to see Frank Auerbach: charcoal portraits at the Courtauld Gallery. It was incredibly, brutally, shockingly beautiful.”
He finished by talking about his love for architecture. Her father was an architect, she told Flannelle, and Alli said she thought “such a one rubbed me:”
“Or sometimes I just hop on my bike and cycle around London admiring the people and the architecture. My dad was an architect and I think that rubbed off on me. Buildings, structures, structures – I enjoy them.”
Alli had to lie to her friends about being in Bridgerton
Alli kept his own Bridgerton the role is a complete secret, even from his closest friends.
He told Tatler that his involvement was his “my dirty little secret” and was “really, really hard” to like those close to him:
“I can count how many people I’ve told. It’s been really, really hard.”
When the pictures of Alli were published, his friends started to recognize him. They asked him about it, and he said e.g. “I wish I was there Bridgerton,” claiming it wasn’t him in the pictures:
“I got a lot of messages saying, ‘Is that you?’, and I just had to lie and deny it. I had to say, ‘That’s not me.’
“I would say to close friends, ‘I don’t know who he is, but he looks just like me. I wish I was in ‘Bridgerton,’ that would be so cool.”
He admitted that he had found it “fun” that “they all believed it.”
