Summary

  • Married at First Sight’s low 18.75% success rate requires an expert pastor to replace Cal.
  • Pastor Cal’s advice makes no sense, most couples end up in divorce; a new expert is needed for efficiency.
  • After being on the show for 8 years, Pastor Cal’s inability to help married couples is a sign that a change is needed.

There are several reasons for the long duration Married at first sight expert pastor Cal Roberson should be replaced. Pastor Cal, along with two other experts, Dr. Pepper Schwartz and Dr. Pia Holec, are responsible for making matches in each city they go to and guide the couples on their eight-week journey. Their purpose is to identify problems in each marriage and help resolve any underlying tensions between the partners. Married at first sight premiered in 2014 and recently finished its seventeenth season.

Married at first sight has featured 64 pairs in the last 10 years. Of these 64, only 12 are still together. This gives the show a success rate of 18.75%. In the last four seasons alone, not a single successful match has been played. Married at first sight season 17 was particularly unsuccessful, as all five couples did not play. The experts also did not detect a group hoax where the Actors tried to control their narrative and present a certain inauthentic way to the camera to make themselves look better.

Pastor Cal’s background

He looks good on paper

Pastor Cal lives in Atlanta, Georgia and has been married to his wife since 2009. He is a speaker, author, marriage coach and purported relationship expert. He is also an ordained pastor and pastoral counselor. He has worked as a relationship therapist for three decades.

On paper, Pastor Cal’s credentials look good, but in practice he hasn’t had a good success rate
Married at first sight
which is a concern and should be replaced.

Pastor Cal joined MAFS in Season 4

He’s the OG in MAFS

Along with Dr. Pepper, Reverend Cal has been on the show the longest joined in season 4 in 2016. During that time, Pastor Cal should have been able to sharpen his tools as a therapist and as a way to reconcile and guide couples, but he hasn’t. Pastor Cal’s demeanor on the show always comes across as someone who genuinely cares about the people he is mentoring and doesn’t hold back his opinions. However, just being nice is not enough to be effective Married at first sight expert.

Pastor Cal has not been effective

Most MAFS couples have chosen divorce

Pastor Cal has proven that he is not the most effective expert. Most of the couples he has counseled have ended in divorce. For example, in season 17, Reverend Cal stepped in to help Lauren Goodger and Orion Martzloff at a critical point in their early marriage when they were unable to communicate progressively.

Reverend Cal did not reach the couple or effectively solve their problems for a positive outcome.

Lauren and Orion walked away from their conversation with Pastor Cal, still not in a good place (via Lifespan,) and broke up the next day. It speaks to Pastor Cal’s inability to be a good expert. Reverend Cal’s approach and advice fell flat, as it often does.

Since Reverend Cal has lost his effectiveness, he should be replaced Married at first sight. He’s been given a platform on the show for eight years to showcase his matchmaking skills and effectiveness as a relationship coach, and he’s failed miserably. Getting a new expert to replace him would at least help ensure that couples and viewers don’t get the same thing again.
