Jordan Parkinson is one of Netflix’s inmates Unlocked: Prison Trialand viewers are curious about his criminal charges.
What is Unlocked’s Jordan Parkinson in prison for?
According to KATV, on January 8, 2022, 21-year-old Jadon Shackleford was killed in a shooting in Meriwether Park, Little Rock, Arkansas. Police were called around 10:10 p.m., and the victim was dead when they responded.
Months later in April 2022 (once again via KATV), 18-year-old Jordan Parkinson was arrested and charged with Shackleford’s murder.
According to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, Parkinson was booked into the Pulaski County Jail on the afternoon of Thursday, April 14, 2022.
The victim’s mother, Hailey Shackelford (via the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette ), called for the arrest “a big relief” but shared the suspicion that more were involved in the murder:
“We’re just waiting for the others, so maybe we can breathe a little more.”
Those suspicions were proven correct when, in December 2022, Little Rock police made two more arrests – 17-year-old Grant Nichol and 18-year-old Evan Franklin. According to KATV, Nichol and Franklin were charged with first-degree murder and acts of terrorism for their involvement in the murder.
An April 2023 Arkansas Online article stated how the killing stemmed from a botched marijuana deal, and said Evan Franklin was the shooter who fired the fatal shot at Jadon Shackleford.
Both Parkinson and Nichol cooperated with prosecutors to identify Franklin as the killer, and the pair reportedly had “vested interest” to convince the authorities and the jury of his guilt. Murder charges against Parkinson and Nichol were dropped in exchange for their cooperation.
Parkinson was incarcerated in Pulaski County at the time Unlocked: Prison Trial was filmed, it appears that he has been released and is now free.
Unlocked: Prison Trial now streaming on Netflix.
