East London isn’t short of good boozers but The Spark House, bang in the middle of Leyton and Walthamstow, is not just a place to go for a pint, it’s redefining what a pub can be and do thanks to its focus on digital art and electronic music. The Laine Pub Company have transformed an old-school pub into a modern arts space, featuring a range of immersive digital installations on the walls from the likes of Daisy Dickinson, Sapphire Goss, Rob Shields, Mary Sea, Tasos Stamou, Karel Doing, Marta Salogni and Analog A/V Synthesis.
As well as pairing those projections with electronic soundtracks, The Spark House is also running a packed programme of electronic music events and DJ sets. It’s kicking off with a collab event with Into The Woods on 2nd July, where Lumieux, Rupert Ellis, Azire and Kas will be on the decks, and later in the month audiovisual duo Plastic Infinite will be in the house.
You can’t have a pub without drinks and The Spark House certainly delivers on that front with craft beer from the Laine Pub Company’s kegs, spirits and wines. You won’t be going hungry either with the likes of Korean cauliflower bites, mac ‘n’ cheese, chilli cheese quesadillas, burrata with marinated tomato and sharing Sunday roasts on the food menu.
Not only is The Spark House home to some of the best experimental art and music in London, it’s one of the only places in the area open until 2am. People of Leyton and Walthamstow, welcome to your new hangout.
