There’s nothing quite like the sound of the ice cream van on a sunny day to stir up some serious nostalgia and have you rummaging in your pocket for change whilst you drool at the prospect of a cone in your hand. But Mr Whippy isn’t the only soft serve in town (and have you seen how much they cost now?) as a whole host of cafes, restaurants and pop-ups are swirling some seriously inventive flavours. Forget the 99, this is where to find the best soft serve in London.
Soft & Swirly x Rambutan
Ahead of Rambutan opening in Borough Market this autumn, the restaurant is running a soft serve pop-up in collab with Soft & Swirly, and they’re doing epic Sri Lankan flavours like Alphonso mango, coconut & toasted rice, and jaggery & cashew nut.
A childhood fave has been taken up a notch by the guys at Fallow, so instead of a supermarket tub of raspberry ripple, it’s cultured creme fraiche sorbet rippled with raspberry and topped with raspberry & lemon thyme.
Rosslyn Coffee x Happy Endings
Move over iced coffee, this summer it’s all about ice cream coffee. Rosslyn Coffee has teamed up with Happy Endings to provide your caffeine fix in soft serve form – Happy Endings vanilla ice cream infused with 24-hour stepped cold brew coffee, finished with a sprinkling of cocoa powder.
The Ealing Grocer
There’s nothing like shopping for groceries to work up an appetite, so it’s a good job The Ealing Grocer is swirling seasonal soft serve – the rotating flavour selection includes blood orange, honey, mastic milk, vanilla, and mango – to keep you refreshed.
Milk’s regular menu is banging so it’s no surprise that their soft serve game is strong too, with weekly specials including peppermint ice cream topped with sherbet dipped cherries & Musk stick candies, honeysuckle soft serve with donut peach and sage ice cream with rhubarb jellies & extra virgin olive oil.
Korean Dinner Party
Sometimes the simple things are best, like this soft serve from Korean Dinner Party. When you’ve got vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce and cornflakes, you really don’t need anything else.
