Two lesser-known road trips with stunning scenery that rival Scotland's NC500

Scotland's North Coast 500 is one of the world's most popular road trips, with thousands of people flocking to the Highlands every year to travel along the iconic route.

But there are other lesser-known driving routes that offer equally stunning landscapes and unforgettable experiences.

South West Coastal 300 This relatively new circular route hugs the coast along the scenic southwest, taking in Dumfries and Galloway and Ayrshire.

The route passes through numerous attractions - including Galloway Forest Park, which has a dark sky reserve with some of the clearest skies in the UK - ideal for star-gazers.

Visitors can also discover Caerlaverock Castle with its medieval stronghold or walk along the Ayrshire Coastal Path.

Argyll Coastal Route This route is ideal for those who like the fresh sea air, winding coastal roads and top-class seafood. The 129-mile journey begins at the village of Tarbet near Loch Lomond.

En route there’s the option to stop and try delicious Loch Fyne oysters and visit the historic Inveraray Castle and 19th century Inveraray Jail.
