Paris Olympics 2024 starts in disaster with most chaotic VAR call ever and Argentina footballers hit by missiles

The 2024 Paris Olympics kicked off with an astonishing VAR debacle as Argentina lost their chaotic football opener with Morocco over two hours after they scarpered off celebrating a draw.

The South American side, barracked constantly during the match in what appeared to be a reaction to Enzo Fernandez's racist singalong, thought they'd scrambled a draw in the 106th minute.

Cristian Medina nodded in after an amazing series of rebounds to seemingly complete a dramatic comeback from two goals down which sparked mass disorder from the Moroccan fans.

Angry fans, already fuming over the extended injury time, threw bottles and firecrackers onto the pitch, while others jumped over the barriers, terrifying the Argentines.

The referee ordered both sets of players to the dressing room and it was believed the game was over, even though three minutes were still to be played.

Almost two hours after the "final whistle", the two teams came out to an empty stadium, the goal was disallowed and the final three minutes were played.

Morocco held out for a controversial and chaotic win... some way to kick off the Paris 2024 Olympics, eh?
