I tested supermarket Twix dupes – the winner tastes like the iconic brand and it’s not Aldi or Lidl

Supermarket own-brand products are often cheaper than the classic brands – but are they as good? We tasted versions of Twix and marked them on quality and value.

The caramel, biscuit and chocolate blend well together, but at £1.09 per 100g, it costs more than twice as much as the cheapest alternative.

Twix

14/20

Taste = 9/10 Value = 5/10

Total Score:

At just 55p per 100g it's one of the cheapest and nearly as good as the real thing. The caramel dissolves quickly in the mouth instead of being chewy.

Tesco Crunchy Caramel

16/20

Taste = 8/10 Value = 8/10

Total Score:

These were let down by the dry and dusty biscuit and had a burnt butter taste. At 69p per 100g, it isn't the cheapest option either.

Asda Caramel Biscuits

12/20

Taste = 6/10 Value = 6/10

Total Score:

This version has a slight salted caramel taste which lifts it. At a higher 68p per 100g, it's still much cheaper than Twix.

Morrisons  BicMix

15/20

Taste = 8/10 Value = 7/10

Total Score:

At just 47p per 100g, this is a bargain, but the biscuit is crumbly and there was a hole in one of the bars we tried.

Aldi Dairyfine Jive

15/20

Taste = 7/10 Value = 8/10

Total Score:

These are the cheapest we tried, at 45p per 100g, but not worth the saving. The caramel tastes synthetic and the biscuit disintegrates.
