I tested supermarket honey from Aldi to Morrisons against brand leader Rowse and the winner was less than half the price

Well-heeled shoppers are snapping up honey from Harrods costing a staggering £750 a jar - but our Lynsey Hope tried supermarket own brands and rated them out of five.

Rowse Clear

£3.00 - 340g

This has a flavour of mild caramel and fruit. While it tastes good, it's pricey compared to the others and you get less.

4/5

88p per 100g

Morrisons Pure Clear

£1.75 - 454g

This had a crunch and wasn’t as smooth to eat. It’s not great value for money either, when it’s the same price as better-tasting options.

2/5

38.5p per 100g

Sainsbury’s Pure Clear

£1.75 - 454g

It had a sweet aroma and lovely deep amber colour. It is competitive on price and nicely packaged.

3/5

38.5p per 100g

Co-op Clear

£2.10 - 454g

A clear, gold colour, it had more flavour than the lighter, cheaper varieties. For a cheaper, everyday jar, this is great.

4/5

46.3p per 100g

Lidl Highgate Fayre Runny

£1.45 - 454g

A lovely depth of flavour and richness to it. Very amber in colour and a slight crunch. Also one of the cheapest.

3/5

32p per 100g

Aldi Grandessa Clear

£1.45 - 454g

Thick and velvety, it was less sweet, which I found a plus. Budget-friendly honey is perfect to spread on your toast.

5/5

32p per 100g
