Supermarkets are joining the Euros 2024 excitement with football-themed buns, pizzas, and cakes. Lynsey Hope taste-tests a selection to find the nicest and best value options.

This cake stood out for its design.  The kids loved it. The sponge was light and tasty, and the jam perfectly sweet.

Smaller than the others, but it had a lovely flavor, especially the buttercream, and lasted several days before going stale.

Football Crazy

Serves 12 – Sainsbury’s, £10

Could have used more jam, but I enjoyed this treat. It would be a nice addition to any Euro party spread.

Jam-filled Muffin

Serves 1 – Lidl, 99p

This vanilla sponge with buttercream and fruity jam hit the spot. It's soft and sugary, but not too sweet. Not the easiest to cut, but a great value.

Football Cake

Serves 14 – Tesco, £10

I liked the appearance, but the sponge was dry and went stale quickly. The icing was very sweet. Good price, but I wouldn't choose it again.

Star Player Cake

Serves 16 – Morrisons, £10

Hidden inside this white and milk chocolate treat is an edible trophy and shortcake balls. The layered Madeira sponge was messy, but the kids had great fun.

Football Smash Dome Cake

Serves 16 – M&S, £18
