‘aggressive plague of mosquitoes’

Germany's Euro 2024 stars have come in for a stinging attack... after their training camp was invaded by mosquitoes.

Veteran keeper Manuel Neuer has had to swap goal nets for mosquito nets to keep the pests at bay.

Neuer, 38, said: "We need to make sure that the mosquito nets are always pulled shut when we are watching games on TV by the swimming pool."

Striker Maximilian Beier, 21, added: "I have already been stung two or three times.

Expert Martin Geier said: "They are very aggressive, they appear in large numbers, and they sting during the daytime as well as at night."

Germany's camp is located in Bavaria.

The facility comes with climbing walls, football pitches and tennis and basketball courts.
