Freddie Mercury's loving muse - and how she's set to make almost £200m from his legacy

She is the woman who won Freddie Mercury’s heart and walked away with his fortune – and now she's about to land another payout.

Mary Austin, former fiancée of Queen frontman Freddie, is set to bank £187.5m in a record-breaking deal being brokered by the band to sell their back catalogue for £1billion.

Mary, the only woman Freddie loved, already received half of his estate when he died in 1991 then another 25 per cent when his parents died.

But Londoner Mary also gets 18.75 per cent of revenues from Queen’s catalogue which also pays surviving members Roger Taylor, John Deacon & Brian May.

Mary and Freddie first met when he was largely unknown in 1970. They were engaged in 1973.

Three years later, Freddie told her he was gay. Mary said she was aware of his sexuality and that they 'hugged'. The pair remained inseparable up until his death in 1991.

Now final details of the £1billion Queen back-catalogue deal with Sony are being thrashed out — and Freddie's gift to the only woman in his life continues.
