Luxury lifestyle brand Virgin Hotels will open its first location in London on August 1, 2024. This new location is located in the building that previously housed the Mondrian Shoreditch London hotel.

The London location is the eighth Virgin Hotels site worldwide and the seventeenth property in the wider Virgin Hotels collection.

Virgin will take over the Mondrian brand location at 45 Curtain Road in Shoreditch. The hotel has 120 rooms, Dani Garcia’s BiBo restaurant, rooftop pool bar, private members’ club, gym and treatment rooms.

Ennismore plans to move its Mondrian Hotel to central London, with a larger location and larger number of rooms. The details of this move have not yet been announced.

Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Group, said: “We are all absolutely delighted that the Virgin Hotels Collection is opening a Virgin hotel in London. Since the inception of Virgin Hotels, we have been in our sights on London; a place that so many of our customers either call home or name as one of their favorite destinations – and of course, that’s where the Virgin story began. At Virgin, we’ve been disrupting the travel industry for over 40 years, from the ground to the air – even into space. Our success comes from recognizing where we can make a difference.”

James Bermingham, CEO of Virgin Hotels Collection, added: “This year marks 10 years of Virgin Hotels and what a way to start the celebrations early by announcing our newest hotel in one of the world’s most famous cities. We are all absolutely delighted that Shoreditch, London will be home to the next Virgin Hotels location, and how exceptional it will be.We pride ourselves on having hotels in the best locations in our major cities, and Virgin Hotels London-Shoreditch will be at the heart of one of London’s most cultural and creative areas.

Jamie Reuben, director of the site’s owner, Reuben Brothers, said: “Over the past decade I have closely followed the smart, strategic expansion of Virgin Hotels – and its significant openings in key US and UK cities – from Chicago and Las Vegas to Edinburgh and New York. I am therefore very excited to partner with Virgin Hotels across London – a city that both Sir Richard Branson and I are proud of. Richard and his team’s entrepreneurial spirit and constant pursuit of excellence make them an ideal partner for our property in Shoreditch, and I look forward to realizing Virgin’s vision.”

The hotel is due to open on 1 August 2024, marking the start of a gradual transformation to align the hotel with the Virgin Hotels brand.
