Modern Eastern Mediterranean restaurant Brother Marcus has opened its fifth location on September 4, this time in the heart of London’s Covent Garden, with a rooftop terrace and its much-loved meals that use flavors from Greece, Turkey and Cyprus.
Known in the capital for their East Median brunch and small plates, their Covent Garden location will be their biggest yet, with two terraces overlooking The Yard, between Mercer Street and Upper St Martin Lane. Weekdays at the two-story venue begin with breakfast before moving on to all-day mezze, while weekend brunch is the order of the day, served until 4 p.m., when the menu changes to sharing plates.
Founded in 2016 by three friends, Alex, Arthur and Tasos – with current restaurants in Angel, Borough Yards, South Ken and Spitalfields Market – the menu is inspired by Tasos’ Cretan heritage with recipes handed down from generation to generation.
Breakfast includes the now famous sweet potato chips, smoky shakshuka, fried chicken roast and breakfast pitas with fillings of labneh, Kasundi jam, kofta, egg, spinach and feta. Later in the day, sharing plates combines tradition with Brother Marcus’ fresh, seasonal and imaginative approach, such as:
Pan-fried halloumi, watermelon jam & mint
Crispy eggplant skewer, shatta herb sauce, labneh and grape molasses
Pan-cooked bream, almond & dill gremolata
Roasted chicken, sun-dried tomato, harissa, fresh herb salad, labneh and nigella seeds
Baklava sandwich, pistachio ice cream and honey cream
Tahini cheesecake, kataifi, thyme stewed rhubarb
They also launch the site with Marcus’ Choice, a specially curated set menu and pre-theatre rip & dip platter + 2 mezze dishes for £25 Tuesday to Friday 5-7pm.
The new space will feature two bars – one on each floor – with high seating, and will retain Brother Marcus flavors using Eastern Mediterranean herbs, spices and liqueurs, along with a long list of Greek wines. Cocktails on the menu include e.g Rakomelo Ortheir Greek take on the classic Mai Tai, Calamata Martini with gin infused with olive oil and a Helios Spritz Quiquiriqui with mezcal, spiced mango syrup, lemon juice and pineapple soda. They also have a selection of non-alcoholic cocktails, coffee, juices and smoothies.
Finch Interiors – who designed the Borough Yards and Spitalfields sites – have been brought in to redesign the space with an open kitchen and a cohesive feel to the other sites. Loosely arranged terracotta tiles, subdued earth tones and artisan ceramic plates line the walls, while vibrant green plants sit alongside woven, willow, wood and rattan.
