Expert Francesco Putignano, Group Bar Development Manager at Italian restaurant San Carlo, reveals how the Limoncello Spritz should Really to be done.

Francesco Putignanosaid: “Limoncello Spritz is the perfect summer cocktail – light, bubbly and reminiscent of the south coast of Italy. As an aperitif (before dinner) or digestivo (after dinner) it is sweeter than an Aperol Spritz or Campari Spritz, as the Limoncello itself is made from vodka, lemon zest and sugar .It’s a simple liqueur, but delivers maximum flavor – just like the rest of the recipe!

“The key words are the ingredients. We Italians pride ourselves on exceptional, fresh ingredients, expertly prepared. We are always looking for the finest seasonal produce to enhance our food and drink. Choose your ingredients and make sure they are the freshest, head to your local market.

Ingredients

Follow this 3-2-1 method. The only ingredients you need are:

· Prosecco (60 ml)

· Limoncello (50 ml)

· Soda water (30 ml)

· A sprig of fresh thyme

Method

· Fill the wine glass with ice.

· Pour over limoncello and add prosecco and soda.

· Mix and Garnish with a sprig of thyme.

Francesco added: “The whole method is very easy. I recommend adding fresh thyme to the Limoncello beforehand for added effect. Another option is to add mint and lemon for decoration.

Francesco advises that Limoncello can also be enjoyed as a shot or directly on ice. Francesco also recommends keeping the bottle in the freezer for longer.
