Charlotte Street is one of London’s pretty Streets, set just off Tottenham Court Road and right in the heart of central London. This little street is bustling in the evenings and full of trendy bars, as well as cool restaurants. It is on this Street that Gaucho is set, although this restaurant is actually a Group, when stepping inside it seems like it is anything but. As soon as you walk in your are transported into a breathtaking world of glamour and class, the restaurant is set downstairs, but the details and high fashion design becomes obvious as soon as you walk in. The entrance holds an eye catching crystal chandelier in perfect contrast to the black and mirrored wall. The service is excellent from the moment arrive in and the receptionist was very friendly, offering to take out coats before escorting us to the restaurant.

The visual delight is only enhanced when you walk down the stairs, the restaurant is on two levels and has a very open feel, the seats are white leather and swirl when you sit on them. The design it modern, cool and extremely glamorous. You can not help but feel special as soon as you set eyes on the place. Glass bubble lights hang down from the ceiling, in contrast to the dramatic, black, white and silver theme. We were invited to partake in a cocktail at the bar before we were seated, so we really had a chance to admire this stunning restaurant in detail. Funky lounge music plays in the background and the list of cocktails are enticing. We opted for the Giovanni, which is made of Ketel one vodka, Torontes white wine, rosehip jelly, with fresh peach and passion fruit. The cocktail has a delicious fruity smell, a well paired passion fruit taste and was quite simply beautiful. It is clear to me the stunning design of the venue is not the only feature that was well thought out, as I already had the feeling I wanted to return without even trying the food.

Once seated our waiter Etienne came to greet us and he was extremely well versed in the menu, he took his time to explain the cuisine which is based on Argentinian food and especially steak. I do not actually eat meat, but the menu certainly gave me lots of alternative choices. Etienne brought over varying cuts of meat, explaining the options and different ways the meat is prepared. To be honest even though I do not eat meat, our lovely waiters charm and knowledge made me interested in what he had to say. It is always a pleasure to find a waiter that is genuinely interested in the menu and is proud of his work.

Before our starter we were brought surprise mini appetisers, mackerel ceviche in a Japanese sauce. The taste certainly tickled the taste buds and left a welcome salty taste, the perfect way to start off a meal. We began with Crab Causita, with egg, lime and avocado. If this was anything to go by, then it seemed the food at Gaucho is nothing short of perfection. The fresh crab complimented the tangy lime, alongside the fresh ripe avocado. It was a hearty portion and absolutely divine.
For the main my guest ordered the ribeye steak with peppercorn sauce. He described it not only as by far the best steak he had ever had in London, but as tender, juicy and extremely tasty. The steak melts in your mouth and is so tender you do not need a steak knife to cut it. If you are a meat lover, then Gaucho should definitely be your first point of call. My dish was equally satisfying, pan fried monkfish with puy lentils, carrots, savoy cabbage, in a red wine sauce. The fish was well cooked, the sauce creamy and the portion size generous. Alongside we ordered my absolute favourite Humita Salteña. Our lovely waiter Etienne shared that once people try it they can not wait to come back for more and I can see why. It is served in a corn husk with roasted pumpkin and sweetcorn. This dish melts in your mouth and is complemented with melted mozzarella.
The restaurant is filled with city slickers, romantic couples and high flyers out with friends. From the service, to the food, to the cocktails and the décor, there is nothing that the Gaucho does not excel at.
Despite being quite full from the outstanding cuisine, we ordered the sticky toffee pudding with orange puree and poached kumquats. The sticky toffee pudding melts in your mouth and is accompanied by pieces of orange, vanilla ice cream and ample toffee sauce. However, my absolute favourite of the night and another must try, is the Don Pedro. Whipped ice cream, with walnuts and your choice of liquor. I chose Amoretto, which was infused with ice cream. It was light, fluffy, creamy and absolutely out of this world.
If you would like an evening out that will be remembered long after you leave for home, outstanding food, breathtaking Décor and perfect service then the Gaucho is for you. You will feel special and enjoy an evening of tantalising culinary delights, the Gaucho have it right on every level and deserve the 5 star rating that Heart London Magazine have awarded them.
